La Rambla
La
Rambla is
perhaps
Barcelona's most well-known avenue, with a very crowded central
promenade. It runs from Catalunya Square, pretty much the heart of
the city, to the harbour, where Columbus Memorial stands. It is a
must in any visit to Barcelona.
The Rambla is a popular
place for street performers of different sorts, especially in summer:
tourists and locals alike often stop to gawk at the artists. This,
unfortunately, also makes it a profitable place for pickpockets and
other nonviolent petty criminals. However, if you apply a minimum
amount of care (e.g., watch your wallets and bags closely, do not
flash cash), everything should be fine.
